And now for a wider view. The close-ups of the riprap were taken 180 degrees around from here. To the south the ocean is up to the riprap and didn't retreat from it even at low tide. It's not possible to walk more than about 100 yards south from this point and stay on the beach (there is no beach) without getting really wet. Really wet and probably risk getting thrown against the rocks.

This is like a picture of a Martian landscape, something about the contrast makes it almost other-worldly... nice effect!
